SSDI is social security Disability Insurance. These disability benefits allow workers to receive money from the administration if they have a qualified disability and have paid enough payroll taxes.
If you didn’t qualify for the latter SSDI checking on January 3, you may be entitled to one of the following three payments. For your information, the previous disability benefit was for those who were on Social Security prior to May 1997.
The Social Security Administration has confirmed that there will be a new one SSDI check on January 10, 2024. However, there are two requirements you must meet to be eligible.
JANUARY 10 ELIGIBILITY FOR SSDI PAYMENT
You must have applied to be eligible disability benefitsbut not earlier than May 1997. In addition, the Administration will take into account your date of birth.
Because you can only get SSDI on January 10th, if you meet the birthday requirement, let’s look at the possible dates. In fact, if your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th of the month, you can qualify.
For example, if you filed after May 1997 or in the same month and your date of birth is the 5th of each month, you will receive your SSDI payment in just 48 hours. So as long as it’s from 1-10, you can pick it up on January 10, 2024.
If you are SSDI beneficiary but your birthday is on a different date, there will still be two payment days left in January. Actually they will be on January 17th or 24th. To get it on January 17, your date of birth should be from 11 to 20 or on January 24 if it is from 21 to 31. Check the amounts below.
DISABILITY BENEFIT AMOUNTS FOR ALL JANUARY PAYMENTS
Since then there have been many different amounts SSDI beneficiaries collect payments based on their previous earnings, work history and filing date. In general, disability benefit amounts are lower because people with disabilities have not had as much time to pay payroll taxes as other workers.
For example, retirees could receive an average payment worth $1,907 in 2024. Person on SSDI can get an average payment worth 1537 dollars in 2024. So there is a significant difference.
The biggest SSDI the benefit is 3822 dollars while the top amount for retirees is $4,873 in 2024. Either way, all Social Security beneficiaries got 3.2 percent more from the last cost-of-living adjustment increase.
A person who received $1,000 from SSDI in 2023 could get $1,032 in 2024. Those who qualified for $2,000 could get $2,064 in 2024. Even if it’s less money than in the last COLA for 2023, that’s an average about $48 extra per month.
